Beef People Logo

The Beef People are an original band that began in Greenville, South Carolina in the mid-1980’s. Hard to pigeonhole, the band's sound referenced influences such as Elvis Costello, Husker Du, R.E.M., and Mission Of Burma.

The band are:

Steve McGowan (Vocals, Guitar)

Adrienne Meddock (Vocals, Bass)

Ken Norton (Vocals, Keyboards)

The drummer’s seat featured a revolving cast, including:

Jim McNeeley

Rhett Lawrence

Russell Farrow

Kevin Heuer

The band played hundreds of shows across the Carolinas and Georgia. They released a seven-song Demo cassette and the Fragile/Nothing You Can Do vinyl single.

The band has three distinct songwriters that leads to the music having a ‘mixtape’ feel. The sound of the band fit the song and not vice versa. The Beef are known for playing carefully curated, ever-evolving cover songs drawn from bands as diverse as contemporaries such as Pylon and the Volcano Suns to classics such as Joni Mitchell and The Cyrkle.
